What's a girl to do when meeting The One means she's cursed to die a horrible death?

Life hasn't been easy on sixteen-year-old Emma Conner, so a new start in New York may be just the change she needs. But the posh Upper East Side prep school she has to attend? Not so much. Friendly faces are few and far between, except for one that she's irresistibly drawn to—Brendan Salinger, the guy with the rock-star good looks and the richest kid in school, who might just be her very own white knight.

But even when Brendan inexplicably turns cold, Emma can't stop staring. Ever since she laid eyes on him, strange things have been happening. Streetlamps go out wherever she walks, and Emma's been having the oddest dreams: visions of herself in past lives—visions that warn her to stay away from Brendan. Or else.
Spellbound by Cara Lynn Schultz was a fun quick read I could not put this book down. The book is romance with paranormal thrown into it. The characters are wonderful, by the time you finish this book you feel like you know each one. Emma is strong she is not a whiny or self centered. I fell in love with Brendan right away. You are left at the end with a happy ending and no cliffhanger, this is an excellent stand alone.
I received this book from Netgalley for review.
Can there truly be love after death?
Drifting in the dark waters of a mysterious river, the only thing Amelia knows for sure is that she's dead. With no recollection of her past life—or her actual death—she's trapped alone in a nightmarish existence. All of this changes when she tries to rescue a boy, Joshua, from drowning in her river. As a ghost, she can do nothing but will him to live. Yet in an unforgettable moment of connection, she helps him survive.
Amelia and Joshua grow ever closer as they begin to uncover the strange circumstances of her death and the secrets of the dark river that held her captive for so long. But even while they struggle to keep their bond hidden from the living world, a frightening spirit named Eli is doing everything in his power to destroy their newfound happiness and drag Amelia back into the ghost world . . . forever.
I received this as an ARC from the publisher through NetGalley.
Tara Hudson first book Hereafter was an okay read. This book took me longer to read than I would of liked it too, I never felt a real connection with the characters and I was not hooked to the story. I felt that the romance was rushed between Ameila and Joshua. Eli was just plain out creepy and it took a long time to find out what was going on with him. The first half of the book just seemed to drag on and the story picked up at about 3/4 of the way. If there is a second book I would pick it up to read it just to see where the author is going to take the story next.
After reading Amanda Hocking's Trylle Trilogy I was looking forward to reading the My Blood Approves Series. I like Amanda's writing, she draws into her characters. This book started out a little slow and about a quarter of the way in it picks up and keeps you flipping the pages. Very good read leaves you with wanting to know what is going to happen next.
She’s learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets, and the Guardians and their power, and about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness. When the fence is breached and her world is thrown into chaos, she must choose between her village and her future—between the one she loves and the one who loves her. It started with the discovery of a young woman's brutalized body in an old Charleston graveyard I've been hired to restore. The clues to the killer—and to his other victims—lie in the headstone symbolism that only I can interpret. Devlin needs my help, but his ghosts shadow his every move, feeding off his warmth, sustaining their presence with his energy. To warn him would be to invite them into my life. I've vowed to keep my distance, but the pull of his magnetism grows ever stronger even as the symbols lead me closer to the killer and to the gossamer veil that separates this world from the next.
Amanda Stevens writes a wonderful story that is a combination of ghost story, romance, mystery. I was hooked in the first chapter when Amelia sees her first ghost, and her father explains to her the rules of what she should do when she sees the ghost. I stayed up late in the night just to finish this book. Such an excellent read.

I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley.

City of Fallen Angels takes place two months after the events of City of Glass. In it, a mysterious someone’s killing the Shadowhunters who used to be in Valentine’s Circle and displaying their bodies around New York City in a manner designed to provoke hostility between Downworlders and Shadowhunters, leaving tensions running high in the city and disrupting Clary’s plan to lead as normal a life as she can — training to be a Shadowhunter, and pursuing her relationship with Jace. As Jace and Clary delve into the issue of the murdered Shadowhunters, they discover a mystery that has deeply personal consequences for them — consequences that may strengthen their relationship, or rip it apart forever.

Meanwhile, internecine warfare among vampires is tearing the Downworld community apart, and only Simon — the Daylighter who everyone wants on their side — can decide the outcome; too bad he wants nothing to do with Downworld politics. Love, blood, betrayal and revenge: the stakes are higher than ever in City of Fallen Angels
I really enjoyed the first 3 books in this series but for some reason I did not care for this book as much as the other ones. I found I could put this book down easily and it took me awhile to read it. Sure there were some intense parts to the book but I really did think there was just too much crying over love relationships.
To save her mother's life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters -- never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.

As Clary uncovers more about her family's past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadow-hunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadow-hunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he's willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her new found powers to help save the Glass City -- whatever the cost?
When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder - much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing - not even a smear of blood - to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know....

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.
I so enjoyed reading this book! You just don't want to put it down, totally keeps you right at the edge of your seat! The book has everything in it, vampires, werewolves and fairies. The characters are fun, exciting and memorable. Clare writes some really vivid details that will help you conjure up a great mental image to help you understand the characters. There is a twist at the end of this book, so when you finish you want to pick up book 2 City of Ashes.
And someone is willing to kill Val for it.Val and Fang have to find the powerful Encyclopedia Magicka before either of San Antonio's warring underworld factions locate it or the consequences will be deadly for the entire city. As usual, Val's vampire enemies (they still call her The Slayer) want her dead. Even some of her fellow demons may be less than trustworthy, since they'd like to grab the legendary book of spells before she does. Val has a personal claim to the Encyclopedia--her demon father left it to her when he died--but someone stole it recently. And that can't be good.Battling vamps and dodging demons, Val struggles to unravel the mystery and find the thief. At the same time, she's fighting her attraction to sweet, sexy Shade--her favorite shadow demon. Rumor has it that Val will lose her part-demon, vampire-fighting powers if she gives herself to him. With a crowd of vamps and demons out to trick her or kill her, it's not a good time for her to risk her job as the city's best vampire hunter by falling in love. The stakes are high and aimed right at her heart. But Lola, Val's hungry little lust demon, doesn't like being denied. Will Lola finally get her way? What's a part-lust-demon-teen supposed to do? Whatever it takes.
Fang Me is the third book in the Demon Underground Series. Just like Bite Me and Try Me this book will not disappoint you. There is lots of action in this novel you have to keep turning the pages to find out what happens next. There is going to be another book in the Demon Underground series being released in 2012. I enjoyed this series and I really like Val’s dog Fang.
Young Adult Vampire Hunter

A Fictionwise Fantasy Bestseller

An edgy book for teens that spans the gap between YA and adult fiction. Life after high school is tough enough without having to go 15 rounds with your inner demon. Val Shapiro is just your ordinary, part-demon, teenaged vampire hunter with a Texas drawl. And a pet hellhound named Fang. Soon enough she finds herself deep in the underbelly of the city, discovering the secrets of the Demon Underground and fighting to save those she loves. Whether they love her back or not.

My rating: 4 stars

Val Shapiro is a teenager who is part succubus, part human. She has been trying to live her life as a normal human girl that has no friends, only keeping her demon part tame by being a vampire slayer. One night as she is stalking out vampires her younger half sister hides in the car. She gets in a heap of trouble with her parents and they kick her out of the house. Now Val is out on her own, not knowing if there are others like her. What she finds will surprise you.

Parker Blue did a wonderful job with the character development. I really like Val she is a strong kick butt, snarky heroine, my other favorite character is her dog fang. Fang also has a snarky attitude that matches Val’s.
This novel is full of non-stop action. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes to read about Vampires.
From Goodreads

When you can see things others can't, where do you look for the truth?
This paranormal murder mystery will have teens reading on the edge of their seats.
Clarity "Clare" Fern sees things. Things no one else can see. Things like stolen kisses and long-buried secrets. All she has to do is touch a certain object, and the visions come to her. It's a gift.
And a curse.
When a teenage girl is found murdered, Clare's ex-boyfriend wants her to help solve the case--but Clare is still furious at the cheating jerk. Then Clare's brother--who has supernatural gifts of his own--becomes the prime suspect, and Clare can no longer look away. Teaming up with Gabriel, the smoldering son of the new detective, Clare must venture into the depths of fear, revenge, and lust in order to track the killer. But will her sight fail her just when she needs it most?
My rating: 5 stars

I just finished the book in 5 hrs and I loved it!!!!!!!! Kim Harrington spun a great story with a murder/mystery twist. Just as I thought I had it figured out another twist would get thrown into the mix. I really hope there is going to be a 2nd book. I would like to read more on Clare and her family.
