My Review

Don't Close Your Eyes by Robert Ross

Falls Church, Massachusetts is the sort of sleepy coastal town where the locals have lived for generations. A picture-postcard place. But there s another side to Falls Church ... a disturbing history of violence, hatred, and murder ...

Victoria Kennelly knows all about what lurks in Falls Church. She's never forgotten the night a fire killed her family and something beyond description claimed her childhood friend. The horror of that night drove her all the way to Boston and a new life. But now things are happening in Falls Church again. Bad things. And the only way Victoria can understand the ghosts of her own past is to go back where it all began ... to face the evil that lives in Falls Church.

My Rating 3 out of 5 Stars

This book started out slow but it did get better about 100 pages in. Kept your attention and made you want to turn the page to see what would happen next. A nice scary read.

My Review: Firelight

Firelight (Firelight, #1)Firelight by Sophie Jordan

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Firelight was a nice fast read. Grabs you from the first chapter and keeps you turning the pages to the end of the book. This is a first in a trilogy series and I'm looking forward to reading the 2nd book when it comes out. We are really left with a cliffhanger at the end.

If you like the paranormal of vampires and werewolves than you should read this book about the Draki (Dragons).

My Review: Whispers

WhispersWhispers by Dean Koontz

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I thought this book was very boring and confusing. Koontz introduces a lot of characters and he don’t give you much description as to who they are and if any connection to each other.
The basic story is that Hilary Thomas, a screenwriter who survived a traumatic childhood at the hands of alocholic parents, is terrorised in her home by Bruno Frye, a vineyard owner who seems to think she is his mother reincarnated. Enter our police team, who come in the painfully good cop-bad cop format. Bad cop thinks she's making it all up to get attention (and tells her as much) even though she has absolutely no reason to, while good cop not only believes her story, but fancies the pants off her to boot. Good cop-bad cop leave, only for the attacker to return to the house to finish off the job. However, Hilary is armed with a knife and fatally stabs and kills him. But is he really dead because the very same person arrives in her house several nights later, determined to put her in an early grave. At this point, Hilary has entered into a relationship with Tony Clemenz who is the good cop and together they set about unraveling the mystery of how Bruno Frye has risen from the dead.

Whisper by Dean Koontz

Synopsis

Stalked by a madman when she was a child, beautiful and successful Hollywood writer Hilary Thomas is convinced that she had already killed him--but now she's plagued with the terror that he has come back.

What did you recently finish reading?

Talk of the Town by Lisa Wingate.

This was a Friday freebie for the nook from Barnes and Noble.

What do you think you’ll read next?
I'm not really sure what will be next but I think I might read this one.

 Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand

Synopsis

On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood.  Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.  It was that of a young lieutenant, the plane’s bombardier, who was struggling to a life raft and pulling himself aboard.  So began one of the most extraordinary odysseys of the Second World War.
The lieutenant’s name was Louis Zamperini.  In boyhood, he’d been a cunning and incorrigible delinquent, breaking into houses, brawling, and fleeing his home to ride the rails.  As a teenager, he had channeled his defiance into running, discovering a prodigious talent that had carried him to the Berlin Olympics and within sight of the four-minute mile.  But when war had come, the athlete had become an airman, embarking on a journey that led to his doomed flight, a tiny raft, and a drift into the unknown.
Ahead of Zamperini lay thousands of miles of open ocean, leaping sharks, a foundering raft, thirst and starvation, enemy aircraft, and, beyond, a trial even greater.  Driven to the limits of endurance, Zamperini would answer desperation with ingenuity; suffering with hope, resolve, and humor; brutality with rebellion.  His fate, whether triumph or tragedy, would be suspended on the fraying wire of his will.
In her long-awaited new book, Laura Hillenbrand writes with the same rich and vivid narrative voice she displayed in Seabiscuit.  Telling an unforgettable story of a man’s journey into extremity, Unbroken is a testament to the resilience of the human mind, body, and spirit.

My Review

Talk Of The Town - Lisa Wingate

3 stars out of 5

Told through the first-person viewpoints of Mandalay and Imagene, the story is funny, but I felt liked it dragged on.  I found the story to be predictable

New Release's Coming Soon

Sing You Home - Jodi Picoult - Release Date 2/28/11

Synopsis

Every life has a soundtrack. All you have to do is listen.
Music has set the tone for most of Zoe Baxter’s life. There’s the melody that reminds her of the summer she spent rubbing baby oil on her stomach in pursuit of the perfect tan. A dance beat that makes her think of using a fake ID to slip into a nightclub. A dirge that marked the years she spent trying to get pregnant.
For better or for worse, music is the language of memory. It is also the language of love.
In the aftermath of a series of personal tragedies, Zoe throws herself into her career as a music therapist. When an unexpected friendship slowly blossoms into love, she makes plans for a new life, but to her shock and inevitable rage, some people—even those she loves and trusts most—don’t want that to happen.
Sing You Home is about identity, love, marriage, and parenthood. It’s about people wanting to do the right thing for the greater good, even as they work to fulfill their own personal desires and dreams. And it’s about what happens when the outside world brutally calls into question the very thing closest to our hearts: family.

Love you More - Lisa Gardner - Release Date 3/8/11

Synopsis

WHO DO YOU LOVE?

One question, a split-second decision, and Brian Darby lies dead on the kitchen floor. His wife, state police trooper Tessa Leoni, claims to have shot him in self-defense, and bears the bruises to back up her tale. For veteran detective D. D. Warren it should be an open-and-shut case. But where is their six-year-old daughter?

AND HOW FAR WOULD YOU GO . . .

As the homicide investigation ratchets into a frantic statewide search for a missing child, D. D. Warren must partner with former lover Bobby Dodge to break through the blue wall of police brotherhood, seeking to understand the inner workings of a trooper’s mind while also unearthing family secrets. Would a trained police officer truly shoot her own husband? And would a mother harm her own child?

. . . TO SAVE HER?

For Tessa Leoni, the worst has not yet happened. She is walking a tightrope, with nowhere to turn, no one to trust, as the clock ticks down to a terrifying deadline. She has one goal in sight, and she will use every ounce of her training, every trick at her disposal, to do what must be done. No sacrifice is too great, no action unthinkable. A mother knows who she loves. And all others will be made to pay.

Love you more . . .
